Finance Sub-Committee approves seven-member committee size for charter revision

DRACUT — A Dracut Finance Committee sub-committee unanimously approved charter language reducing the Finance Committee from nine to seven members appointed by the moderator for staggered three-year terms, determining that most peer communities operate with fewer members and that diversity of background outweighs strict geographic representation. Sub-Committee Chair Rich Cowan and members Nancy McDonald and Joyce Andrews also approved expanded language defining the Finance Committee as the town's principal fiscal oversight and advisory body with authority extending beyond warrant articles to overall fiscal condition and long-term planning. The sub-committee tabled proposed changes to several bylaws sections and advanced streamlined budget process language, striking social media references and increasing public hearing notice lead time from ten to fourteen calendar days.
All approved revisions will be reported to the full Finance Committee.
