Board of Health adopts new garbage hauler regulations effective April 1

DRACUT — Board of Health adopts garbage hauler regulations replacing 1970s rules. Chairman Louis Rousseau, Vice-Chair Cynthia Campbell, and Clerk Tom Bomil voted unanimously to adopt revised Transportation of Garbage and Refuse regulations effective April 1, 2026, updating definitions, permitting, and enforcement to modern standards under state law. The revision governs opt-out customers who must select from a Health Department list of permitted alternative providers to the town's contracted Casella service.
In a separate matter, the board unanimously extended the May 2026 payment deadline on a $1,000 tobacco violation fine issued to Nason's Quick Mart by three months after owner SM Sajjad Hossain appeared to apologize for a January 22 compliance failure.
